Meet the medical team

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Periorbital and lower eyelid surgery · facial aesthetic surgery

Dr. Tongchun Mao is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its aesthetic surgery service at Chongqing West District Hospital, and the lead physician for this site's eye bag content. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, he has rooted his clinical practice for more than 20 years and personally performs over 700 operations a year.

His facial practice covers eyelid surgery and periorbital refinement, rhinoplasty and nasal refinement, facial bone contouring of the cheekbone, jaw angle and chin, facelift and lifting procedures, and facial fat grafting. The eye bag decision sits where two of those meet: the eyelid, and the volume of the face around it. His consistent philosophy is to operate on the anatomy the patient actually has, change only what the analysis justifies, and keep the result natural enough that nobody asks who the surgeon was.

Clinical focus

  • Lower eyelid assessment: fat, skin and fluid told apart
  • Eyelid surgery and periorbital refinement
  • Facial fat grafting and volume restoration around the eye
  • Facelift, midface lift and facial rejuvenation
  • Rhinoplasty, including structural grafting with the patient's own cartilage
  • Revision assessment and planning after previous facial surgery

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Rhinoplasty and Trunk Tumor Groups, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Medical Aesthetics Quality Control Center; Member, Chongqing Medical Accident / Disability Assessment Expert Pools
  • Deputy Chair, Chongqing Shapingba District Medical Aesthetics Committee
  • Published 5 SCI papers, holds 7 national patents, and has participated in 4 research projects
  • Repeatedly named an Outstanding Young Physician at Xinqiao Hospital since joining in 2005

Three problems, three answers

More than 700 operations a year counts only alongside selection. The eye bag is the clearest example in facial surgery of a complaint where the operation a patient asks for is often not the one they need — and where saying so is the most useful thing a surgeon does.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Center leadership · surgical standards

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Center Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. He leads the team in which Dr. Mao practises, and carries responsibility for the center's standards of surgical planning, safety and follow-up.

For patients, that role is the guarantee that an individual surgeon's plan sits inside a departmental system: standardised preoperative assessment, anaesthesia delivered by hospital teams, and a defined follow-up after every operation. Patients who arrive unhappy with an eyelid operation performed elsewhere are usually assessed within this part of the service.

Clinical focus

  • Repair of unsatisfactory cosmetic operations, including revision and reconstruction
  • Surgical planning standards and case selection
  • Departmental follow-up and safety review
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser aesthetics · perioperative care

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service at Chongqing West District Hospital. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years.

Within this service her role is the part of the eye area that an operation does not address: pigment, skin quality and the surface of the skin around the eye, before and after any surgery.

Clinical focus

  • Pigmentation and skin-quality treatment around the eye
  • Skin assessment and preparation before surgery
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · skin disease that changes the eye area

Dr. Yongbo Jia is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its dermatology service. He graduated from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and trained in dermatology at the Institute of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and at Chongqing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Within this service his role is the skin condition rather than the shape: the allergic, inflammatory and pigment problems around the eye that change its appearance, that are not surgical, and that need to be identified before an operation is planned.

Clinical focus

  • Allergic and inflammatory skin disease of the face and eyelids
  • Pigment conditions around the eye
